WHY I JOINED GETUP
Like most people, after school I was unsure about what I wanted to do, let alone what field I wanted to go into. I did some research on marketing and immediately found it interesting. Long story short, I found my way to GetUp and they have given me the opportunity to learn more about marketing and expand my knowledge.
Nothing can actually prepare you for the real world, but this opportunity has given me some insight on what the real world can throw at you.
HOW IT’S GOING…SO FAR
I started at GetUp about three weeks ago, so far it has been exciting yet scary. When I started I was anxious I’ll admit, but as time has gone by the anxiety has faded and the excitement is blossoming as I find my feet – and get to know some of the people I am working with. With the guidance I have received I’ve found it easier to adjust and to ask questions without being afraid.
I think that hybrid working (we spend some time in the office but mostly work from home) has made my transition to the professional world easier because it offers flexibility. I love that I have the opportunity to work in a familiar environment but also get to experience what it’s like in a typical office setting. Through attending meetings I have learnt more about the business and how each department comes together to make everything flow – which has made me realize how much time and energy goes into putting projects together. And seeing marketing from an insider’s point of view makes me appreciate it so much more.
I’m excited to learn more during my journey over the next few months and seeing what impact I can make in the business.

ABOUT CAITLYNNE MILLS
I’m a 19 year old intern at Metropolitan GetUp. I matriculated in 2020 (back when we thought lockdown would be 3 weeks). This is my second year out of school and I’m enjoying navigating adulting – most days. At heart, I am very family-orientated and outgoing so you’ll most often find me spending time with my nearest and dearest, whether it’s my siblings or just hanging out with my friends.
My big goal this year is to learn as much as I possibly can through my internship and studies. Moreover, I want to experience exciting new things that will become the foundation for other opportunities in the future.
